As shown in Fig. 2, five studies were included in the analysis of TMAO concentrations and risk of stroke. The result showed that being in the highest category of TMAO is associated with 68% increased odds of stroke (OR: 1.67, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.86–3.24, P = 0.04), with a significant heterogeneity (I2 = 84.9, P < 0.001).
